Geeksboro to host Opening Gala for Wes Anderson Art Show
GREENSBORO, NC – When Geeksboro invited artists from across the region to submit artwork for a show inspired by the films of Wes Anderson, they had no idea that they would receive more than 100 individual pieces.
Now the public will get their first chance to see all of the fantastic artwork when Geeksboro hosts the opening gala for Find Something You Love: A Wes Anderson Themed Art Show from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, September 12th.
The art show will feature a Wes Anderson movie character costume contest and music from Anderson’s films. Additionally, there will be an exclusive meet and greet with professional North Carolina artist Natalie Andrewson, who will be signing special prints she created exclusively for Geeksboro.
Submitted by artists as far away as Philadelphia and Atlanta, the artwork features characters, scenes, props and motifs from Anderson’s films, which include “The Royal Tenenbaums,” “Moonrise Kingdom,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Fantastic Mr. Fox” and “Rushmore.”

The following is a list of dates, titles, and synopses for the remaining films playing as part of Wes Fest 2015 at Geeksboro Coffeehouse Cinema:
2:30 & 10 p.m. August 28 – September 3 - “The Royal Tenenbaums” – Wes Anderson directs Gene Hackman in the last great performance of his career as a despised, outcast patriarch who attempts to make amends with his now adult family of damaged former child prodigies. This Salinger-esque New York dramedy features an all-star cast including Ben Stiller, Gwyneth Paltro, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson, Danny Glover and Angelica Houston.
2:30 & 10 p.m. September 4 – 10 – “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” – The final film in Wes Anderson’s ‘Futura Quadrilogy’ is the first to reveal the dark cracks in the idealism of the filmmaker’s typically whimsical protagonists. Steve Zissou is a Jacques Cousteau-styled marine documentarian who is down on his luck after a series of flops. Flanked by a stranger who might be his long lost son, he sets out on a last ditch voyage to capture and murder the rare, undocumented exotic shark that ate his best friend. Boasting a soundtrack full of Portuguese folk covers of classic David Bowie songs, Anderson’s fourth film would also be the last time he would collaborate with composer Mark Mothersbaugh.
2:30 & 10 p.m. September 11 – 17 - “The Darjeeling Limited” – Anderson alumni Owen Wilson and Jason Schwartzman partner with newcomer Adrian Brody as a trio of entitled, overly privileged tourists who attempt a vain spiritual journey across India. And while their pursuits appear superficial at first, they learn more about life – and each other – than they ever expected.
2:30 & 10 p.m. September 18 – 24 – “The Fantastic Mr. Fox” – Wes Anderson ventures quite successfully into the world of stop-motion animation with this spirited adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s novel of the same name. Mr. Fox is a reformed chicken thief turned family man and newspaper writer. But when he lapses back into his old ways, his thieving jeopardizes the lives of all the animals who live in his neighborhood after attracting the ire of evil farmers Boggis, Bunce and Bean.
2:30 & 10 p.m. September 25 – October 1 - “Moonrise Kingdom” – Wes Anderson returns to depictions of youth in this childhood adventure film about two outcast pre-teens from broken homes. The two lovebirds run away together in order to ditch the bitter world created by their jaded parents in search of romance and the preservation of their youthful ideals. Featuring performances by first-time Anderson collaborators Bruce Willis, Frances McDormand, and Edward Norton.
2:30 & 10 p.m. October 2 – 8 – “The Grand Budapest Hotel” – For the first time in his career, Wes Anderson was nominated for Best Director and Best Motion Picture at the Academy Awards for this thrilling, pre-World War II adventure. Ralph Fiennes plays Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous hotel from the fictional Republic of Zubrowka and Zero Moustafa (Tony Revolori), the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. It's a story of love, bravery, and most of all, friendship!
